Grateful for the sunglasses hiding the tears in my eyes, I felt the heaviness of the past three decades crush my soul. Again. On this day, I could not climb a mountain trail in the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park with my husband on our 25th Anniversary trip, and I told him to go on without me.
I sat on a stump on that trail’s side, berating myself again. How did I get here? The heavy weight of my heavy body weighed heavily on my mind and spirit. Would I ever be free from this physical exhaustion, emotional anguish, and spiritual disconnect?
Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.
Have you ever experienced something so heavy that it crushes your body, mind, or spirit? What are you carrying today?
I was experiencing deep emotional turmoil again, and I could never quite put my finger on the source. What was it? I’d been feeding this longing for over thirty years with destructive habits. I often craved all the wrong things (like junk food and clearance items) to fill the void.
How about you? What have you been craving for years?
That day, I’d almost given up all hope of living healthy and free for the rest of my life. At 48 years old, my days of living were numbered due to my mounting chronic health issues–morbid obesity, fatty liver disease, pre-diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, painful ovarian cysts, and plenty more.
I prayed, “God, I want to feel better. I’m so tired of all this heaviness in my life.” And I wasn’t talking about just the excess 100 pounds I carried around. No, what weighed on me emotionally and spiritually kept me in even deeper bondage.
Have you lost hope of being free from the heaviness that weighs you down? Have you ever prayed a simple prayer?
Something incredible changed in my life while sitting on that stump, unable to move up that mountain trail. God did hear my prayer, and I walked away with a new resolve to take control of my life. At rock bottom, clinging to my faith was my last resort––I wanted to be well.
When I returned home from the trip, I scheduled a sleep study. I began my journey toward physical health, which miraculously impacted my emotional and spiritual health on a much more profound and life-changing level.
Today, my body has been set free from decades of obesity and a plethora of related health issues. My mind has been renewed. I can think clearly again! And most importantly, my spirit has been redeemed—I feel whole and connected to God like never before. I’ve learned that what I had been craving all those years of wandering in the desert was Joy. Pure and simple Joy!
Faith can do the same for you. Fill your life and heart with joy. You can be free from the heavy weight of everything weighing you down—poor health, struggling finances, broken relationships, exhausting circumstances, and more. Don’t lose hope! Have faith. Freedom and joy are waiting for you.
Are You Ready to Drop What’s Weighing You Down?
My heart wanted to climb those mountains that day with my husband. I love the majesty of the mountains and long to travel many miles to explore them. To say that day sitting alone on the side of a trail was the lowest point of my life is an understatement!
Here’s a fact: Climbing mountains with heavy weights will only get you so far. What will you drop first to lighten your load?
The choice I made that day on the stump of a tree transformed my life in body, mind, and spirit. Forever. When I came home, I started dropping chains of bondage one by one.
Will you join me? Will you make a choice today? You can drop those heavy chains and experience the freedom and joy of healthy living once and for all. This is a journey of faith, a journey I’ve experienced with success, and one you will experience with victory too. Imagine standing on that mountain summit; arms pointed in a “V” for victory! That can be you!
Why Am I So Passionate About This?
Once I made that first choice to take back control of my life, it led to many subsequent days of making more choices for a positive and healthy lifestyle. I began to feel better daily, motivating me to keep going one choice at a time.
I discovered something profound—life transformation is genuinely about a heart transformation. The heart is the wellspring of life, the epicenter of our spirit. A healthy heart knows how to manage emotions and thoughts. It stays motivated and clings to courage, and it takes action!
I share these principles to encourage you to apply them to whatever heavy situation you face. Maybe it’s chronic health issues like mine, or your heart is bitter and angry. Possibly you’ve squandered your financial health and struggle to make ends meet daily. What’s the trial you walk through today?
I can relate to all the above and more. The big lesson I have learned, the greatest gift I have been given, is this: freedom from the heaviness of life is available for you and me. And during that process, passionately pursued by faith, we learn the meaning of true joy. You, too, can find freedom and joy through faith.
Do You Believe by Faith That You Can Experience Freedom and Joy?
Resolve is defined as settling or finding a solution to a problem and deciding firmly on a course of action.
What will you resolve to do today?
In my coaching, I ask questions like, “What one choice will you make today? And then, in a few days, what will your next choice be?” And so on.
Through a series of small daily choices, I transformed my life, but I couldn’t have done it without God. I resolved, first and foremost, to cling to my faith in Him and trust His help in my journey. I began reading my Bible first thing every day to hear the message He had for me, and I asked Him to strengthen me for whatever that day held.
I also resolved to learn all I could about my metabolic health and how to reverse my chronic health conditions, leading to me quitting sugar and adopting a low-carb and fasting lifestyle. I also learned a fundamental lesson––we must pay attention to every aspect of our being—body, mind, and spirit—to live well and experience joy.

That is my story; now let’s talk about yours. It would give me great joy to walk with you in your own transformation story.
For my entire life, I’ve been helping others solve problems. In recent years, people started calling me the “how gal.”
I didn’t realize until after I experienced massive weight loss (and now maintain it) that I am an encourager and teacher at heart. In my playtime as a kid, I always played school . . . and here I am now, teaching you!
Once I fixed the most significant problems in my life (morbid obesity and a negative spirit), I realized I’d been put on this earth to help you do the same.
Are you ready for a new life? Think for a moment of one choice you can make today to take a step forward. I’d be honored to go with you as your coach and as someone who has been there, and done that to encourage you.

I can now climb mountains to the summit in victory! Yep, that’s me!
After I reached my weight-loss goal, I hiked 11 miles on the day pictured here. I made it to the summit of the White Trial in the Wicklow Mountains in Glendalough National Park in County Wicklow, Ireland.
That reminds me of a favorite quote by John Muir:
The mountains are calling, and I must go.
